Announcing the Waldo County Climate Action Coalition
August 19, 2024
After last Fall’s adoption of the Climate Action Plan by the Belfast City Council, a group of local organizations and concerned citizens gathered in November and formed the Waldo County Climate Action Coalition [WCCAC]. We now have 17 organizations as members, and we are eager for others who support our mission to join us.
The WCCAC has adopted the following mission statement:
Collaborate to reduce impacts of climate change and build sustainable communities in Waldo County.
Our goal is to develop an operating environment where local and county organizations can work together to support, amplify, and execute the member organizations’ climate goals, including the goals identified in the City of Belfast’s
Climate Action Plan , as well as “Maine Won’t Wait,” Maine's four-year climate action plan published in 2020.
This effort is not an isolated initiative. Citizens in other Maine communities, such as Bar Harbor, Blue Hill, Camden, Northport, and Freeport are creating organizations focused on taking actions that reduce economic, social, and
environmental impacts of climate change along coastal Maine.
The WCCAC is currently meeting regularly at the Belfast Free Library on the 4th Wednesday of the month. If you are interested in this work or would like to participate in the next meeting please contact us at [email protected].
